The time has finally come, to start my first blog EVER. I will be blogging about health and beauty as well as what exactly goes on in this billion dollar industry.  Within this blog, I will share my thoughts about any recent articles I may have read to personal experiences.  Like a lot of girls I have a natural interest in beauty and what the industry entails. I am also a pre-nursing major so the health aspect of this industry is important to me. There are products currently on the market that contain harmful chemicals that can be dangerous to one's health and it is important that people are aware of what they are purchasing. I will  focus on these specific products that contain dangerous chemicals and follow up on some eco-friendly companies that are essentially better for you as well as the environment. I will go into detail of society's obsession to looking younger. The health side of this comes in to play when people's obsessions develop into psychological disorders and how their health is affected by it. I also hope to accomplish a blog that provides some fun facts about the beauty industry and how beauty has evolved over the century.  The beauty industry is everywhere and society is easily influenced by it, so I am curious to learn more about the health side of this industry as well as the social impacts it has on men and women today.
Growing up my mom worked in a salon for several years and I regularly visited her and the stylists after school. It was always fun to be in that type of atmosphere as a little girl.  My mom enrolled at Make-up Designory: Make-up School where she learned how to become a stylist by learning how to apply make-up, style hair, and wardrobe. She spent many hours at school as well as at home working on homework projects and at times she even let me help her. This is where I learned a few things about the industry, anything from make-up, to 20’s hair styles, to modern day fashion. However after she graduated she ended up not pursuing her career as a make-up artist. This industry is very competitive and I remember her telling me, “In order to make it as a make-up artist in this industry and get into the union, someone had to die!” Although she did not continue her career as a make-up artist it was fun to be around an environment that revolved around such creativity.
Currently, my parents own their own business. They have always encouraged me to help out and be a part of this growing process within their company. Sometimes I find myself talking to someone about their hair products and it turns out they have already heard of it or even tried it out! It's exciting to see their hard work-pay finally off! Over the years, I have learned a lot from my step-dad about the industry and what it takes to be a successful brand. With all these surrounding influences in my life, I feel like I am passionate enough to talk about this topic for days! As I mentioned earlier I want to be a nurse, and as a career that is my passion, however I will always have an interest in the beauty industry and this is why I have chosen to intertwine the two as my overall topic. I am excited to start blogging and I hope to learn some new things along the way!

  1. So as I was reading this post again... I found my self wanting to see more visuals within the text. I like how you show your interest in the subject, but I think you need to break it up a little bit. You have such a very visual topic.. you should include it. :)
